Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, two of Bollywood’s most beloved stars, are gearing up to captivate audiences with their much-anticipated release, ‘Stree 2’, set to hit theaters this Thursday. As part of their promotional whirlwind, the actors took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, revealing the heartwarming stories behind their very first paychecks during a candid conversation on the popular show ‘Aapka Apna Zakir’.
Shraddha Kapoor, known for her grounded personality despite her superstar status, shared a light-hearted confession about her first salary. Reminiscing about her time in the United States, she revealed, “My parents sent me to America with lots of love. But, because they wanted to keep me grounded, they kept me on a budget with very limited pocket money. However, they said if I wanted more money, I could earn it myself. My dad asked me to get a job there, so I applied for it at a coffee shop. I bagged the job. My first cheque was $40 dollars.” With a sheepish grin, Shraddha admitted, “I spent it on food.”
On the other hand, Rajkummar Rao’s story took a more emotional turn, highlighting the humble beginnings that shaped the actor into the star he is today. Reflecting on his high school days, Rajkummar recalled, “I was in high school when I used to go teach dance to a 7-year-old girl at her house. I used to get Rs 300 for training her. The first time when I received my first salary, I think it was six notes of Rs 50. I was so happy because the financial situation at my house was not good in those days.” He added with pride, “I used my first salary to buy groceries. And after buying everything, I was left with some money so I bought desi ghee. It was a big deal for us to have ghee on our rotis.”
Meanwhile, Stree 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Stree, also continues to create excitement among fans. The film, which sees Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao reprising their roles, is expected to perform exceptionally well at the box office. Trade experts predict that Stree 2 could earn between Rs 25-30 crore on its opening day, as it dominates multiplex screens across the country.
The News18 Showsha review of the film reads, “The first half of the film sails by smoothly, but the second half hits choppy waters. The storyline takes a turn reminiscent of Stranger Things, with women held captive in an alternate universe accessible only through a Harry Potter-style Platform Nine and Three-Quarters gateway. At this point, the film borrows heavily from the West, diluting the originality that made the first Stree so special.”
“The climax feels somewhat underwhelming, leaving me questioning the purpose of the entire battle. And then there are the cameos. While nods to Bhediya and another (spoiler) character are meant to excite fans and establish the future of the horror-comedy universe, they also introduce plot holes that remain unresolved. The post-credits scene is clumsily placed between two songs, leaving viewers unsure whether to stay or leave. Raj & DK’s absence is strongly felt in the second half. Despite the shortcomings in the story, the dialogues are spot-on, ensuring you laugh every 15 minutes,” an excerpt from the review added.
