Actor Sam Rockwell, famed for his role in Iron Man 2 was recently inquired about his potential return to Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars. In response, the actor expressed his willingness, making millions of his fans excited. In a recent interview with GQ, during which Rockwell talked in detail about his popular roles, including his portrayal in Argylle, the topic of appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) resurfaced. When asked about reprising his role as Justin Hammer, Rockwell casually responded, “I mean, I’m around… Let’s do it.” This response hints at the possibility of his return in the storyline, which revolves around Tony Stark’s technology falling into the wrong hands.
Given Hammer’s previous involvement with Stark’s tech in Iron Man 2 and a brief appearance in All Hail the King, his reintroduction in Armor Wars seems possible, despite his prolonged absence from the live-action MCU.
Rockwell’s comments on Armor Wars gained further attention during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he reiterated his interest in returning to the MCU.
With Tony Stark no longer present in the MCU, reintroducing characters like Justin Hammer could reignite interest among fans who miss the Iron Man era. Rockwell humorously reiterated his interest, stating, “Well, I’m waiting for the phone call…I haven’t gotten the phone call, no. I’m growing the beard and everything. Listen, I’m in dude. Yeah, let’s go.”
Justin Hammer’s return to the MCU was already hinted at in the animated series What If…? Season 2. In a Christmas-themed episode, Rockwell voiced the character, marking his return after years of fan anticipation. Director Bryan Andrews expressed excitement over having Rockwell back for the series, highlighting the significance of Hammer’s character in the MCU’s villain roster. Andrews shared, “Sam Rockwell said yes, and he had a lot of fun on it. And it was great, he did a great job,” reports Comicbook.
One characteristic fans associate with Justin Hammer is his signature dance moves, which Rockwell introduced on the set of Box of Moonlight. According to the actor, dancing helped alleviate nervousness during screen tests, eventually becoming a trademark feature of his performances. Rockwell explained, “Well often, initially it’s about shaking off the nerves. I would just dance to shake out. It was a screen test for Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Literally George let me dance in the screen test to get the nerves out. And then he ended up using it in the screen test.”
