Samuel L Jackson Admits To Doing 'Crazy Things' In His 44-year Marriage To LaTanya Richardson

Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson has garnered widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as Jedi Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. At 75, Jackson is celebrated not only for his exceptional on-screen performances and versatility but also for his candid nature. In the upcoming issue of AARP The Magazine, where he graces the cover, he opens up about his 44-year marriage.

Jackson married actress and producer LaTanya Richardson after crossing paths with her during their college days. The couple got hitched in 1980. When asked about how they have managed to keep their marriage going for so long, the Pulp Fiction actor said, “A lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up.”

He further talked about facing hardships in his 44-year-long marriage and added, “I’ve done— in my marriage that’s crazy, you know? She has, too, in her head, or whatever in reality, but you got to go, ‘Is that a breakup offence?’ Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it? Or there are certain things that you learn to ignore about people — that she’s learned to ignore about me.” The Goodfellas actor mentioned that his wife accepted that he was going to work until “it’s time” for him. He said, “And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time.”

Jackson and Richardson have one child, a daughter, Zoe Jackson, whom the couple welcomed in 1982. During the same interview, the 75-year-old Jurrasic Park actor recalled the time when his wife and daughter found him lying on the floor due to his drug addiction. He revealed, “I don’t know about deciding to get sober because I was trying to get high. My wife and daughter found me lying on the floor. My best friend from high school was a drug counsellor, and my wife called him, and I was in rehab the next day. I didn’t go kicking and screaming because I was tired. I had a very palpable life change because of it.”

Samuel Jackson made his acting debut in 1972 with a leading role in Together For Days. Since then, he has appeared in over 150 films, earning recognition for his performances in notable works such as Die Hard With a Vengeance, A Time to Kill, Unbreakable, The Incredibles and Coach Carter, among many others.
