Satyajit Ray is regarded as one of the legendary filmmakers and writers of the entertainment industry and literary world. His work has inspired numerous artists including the national award-winning filmmaker Shoojit Sircar. During a recent panel discussion at the IFP season 14, Sircar expressed his admiration for Ray, stating, “Satyajit Ray has been my guru and still I think his films are so much influence in my life and in my films also. Apart from that I have watched a lot of Oliver Stone films, Fellini, Bunuel (Luis Bunuel), Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak, there are many others. So, at that time I think those films didn’t have this kind of exhibition, this kind of distribution.”
Shoojit Sircar discussed the challenges of accessing Ray’s films during his youth, especially while growing up in Delhi. He said that he never had a chance to go to many theatres. He added that things are different now and there are many theatres to exhibit your films. Shoojit Sircar said that there was only one theatre in Delhi where he could see these kinds of films. He said that this included Bergman, Bunuel or Ray’s films. Shoojit Sircar concluded by saying that these films were his influences.

According to him, it’s a very simple observation of life with a little smile. The 57-year-old director said that when he watched the film’s post-production, it brought a smile to his face. According to him, he can guarantee that it is one of the finest Abhishek Bachchan films. Shoojit Sircar said that they always wanted to work together but we were not getting the right kind of script.
