Director Raj & DK had were the writers of Stree in 2018 and it emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year. Six years on, it remains to be one of the best horror-comedy films in the last decade. While fans were eagerly waiting for the duo to reunite with director Amar Kaushik for Stree 2, things took a turn for the dark. Raj & DK had a fallout with Stree’s co-producer Dinesh Vijan. This put a hold on their collaboration on Stree 2, opening the door for Niren Bhatt to enter as the writer. But what exactly happened between Raj & DK and Dinesh? Let’s look back:
Why Did Raj & DK Have a Fallout With Dinesh Vijan?
After the box office success of Stree, it was widely reported that Raj and DK were upset with Dinesh allegedly because he did not pay them their dues. According to a Times of India report, it was claimed that Raj & DK were producing the film when Dinesh approached them to co-produce the project with them. Dinesh and Raj & DK were the 50-50 partners on Stree’s profit. However, when the profits came in, Raj & DK were allegedly not paid Rs 20 Cr of the amount.
Their relationship turned sour and Dinesh decided to pull the plug on his future projects with them. “Dinesh Vijan has decided to pull out of Go Goa Gone 2 due to the ongoing dispute with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. Their relationship has gone sour. Now, Dinesh does not want to go ahead with Raj & DK on the project which they were supposed to do earlier,” a source told Bollywood Hungama in 2018.
Did Raj & DK and Dinesh Vijan Resolve Their Issues?
While Raj & DK and Dinesh went their separate ways, in 2021, Dinesh confirmed that the trio have ironed out their difference. Speaking Bollywood Hungama in 2021, Dinesh said, “What happens sometimes is that success causes more problems than failure and in failures, you huddle together and I think we were all very young and all very immature and finally we got together and solved it. Generally, you learn from it to not be in a similar situation and you just move on. Finally, we had a lovely conversation, it went all well and it is all good.”
The producer added, “When do misunderstandings happen? When two people don’t speak to each other and there are six people talking. When you have done a lot of work together and we have done four films together and I have a lot of regards and I love The Family Man. So finally sometimes, if you have seen from all these films where growing up two best friends not getting along or two people who got along not getting along, generally its people not communicating. So I have learned from that episode to communicate better, to put my point across.”
About Stree 2:
Although Raj & DK are not returning to the Stree universe, Dinesh roped in the franchise’s OG director Amar Kaushik for the directorial duties. The film also marks the return of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.
The film releases on August 15. The film clashes with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa.
