Many Indian actors who became stars and are ruling the industry used to do odd jobs before entering the entertainment industry to make ends meet. Another new addition to this list is an actor who dropped out of college before completing 10th standard. The actor we are talking about once worked as a mechanic and later quit to work as a salesman in a clothing store. The actor-turned-star now charges a hefty fee per film. He is none other than Ajith Kumar.
Ajith Kumar is a renowned Tamil actor who has impressed the audience with his performances in several hit films. He dropped out of school during the 10th standard. Through a family friend who worked at Enfield, Ajith got a job as an apprentice and spent six months training to become a mechanic.
However, Ajith gave up this job as his father wanted him to take up a white-collar job. He then joined another family friend’s garment export business as an apprentice. He eventually evolved into a business developer and regularly travelled across the country for sales assignments to improve his English skills.
The actor also started his own textile business where he sells fabrics along with three other partners. However, the business did not do well and Ajith had to look for another job. During this time, Ajith also started doing modelling alongside his work. PC Sreeram spotted him while shooting a commercial for Hercules Cycle and Motor Company and thus he started his acting career with a one-minute role in En Veedu En Kanavar. In an interview, the actor revealed that he got Rs 2500 as his first salary for the film.
The actor later acted in several films as a supporting actor but his most commercially successful film as a lead was the romantic thriller Aasai and after that, there was no looking back. Ajith has done several films that have grossed over Rs 100 crore like Aarambam, Veeram, Vedalam and others.
Today he is one of the most popular actors in Tamil cinema and if reports are to be believed, the actor rakes in Rs 104 crore per film. This makes him one of the highest-paid Tamil actors.
