The 2018 horror film, Tumbbad, is re-releasing in theatres today and has been generating a positive response from cinebuffs even after 6 years. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the horror-thriller has struggled to be successful commercially during its initial run and earned about Rs 13 crores. But the film gained popularity over the years and garnered a substantial fanbase. There was a lot of buzz around its re-release, and the advance bookings hint towards a successful second run.

As per a report by Pinkvilla, Tumbbad sold 21,000 tickets in the top three national theatre chains for its opening day during pre-sales. PVR Inox sold 15000 tickets, while Cinepolis sold 6000. Another 1000 tickets were sold under the MovieMax chain, indicating a strong start at the box office. Furthermore, the report mentions that early projections suggest that the film could gross Rs 1 crore on its opening day, depending on the sales on the first day.

Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, was a unique blend of both horror and fantasy genres. Sohum played the character of Vinayak. The narrative takes place in the 1900s when Vinayak comes to his ancestral village after several decades. His goal is to discover a treasure concealed in a haunted old fortress.

To generate excitement among fans, Sohum Shah released a new trailer for the re-release. The trailer gave a glimpse of haunting visuals fans can expect from the film, and he also shared the official re-release date. Sharing the post on Instagram, Sohum wrote, “Sacchai, acchai, burai aur lalach, har yug mein inhi ki kahaniyan dohrayee jaati hain, aisi hi ek kahani dohrane ka samay phir aa gaya hai. Tumbbad Re-release Trailer Out Now. Experience Tumbbad in cinemas again on 13th September, 2024.”

Earlier, speaking to a media portal about Tumbbad, Sohum Shah stated, “Though the film Tumbad falls under the horror category, I do not consider it a horror film. If you have watched the movie properly, you will realise that its theme is similar to the folk tales told by our grandmother. I always thought that we didn’t have such topics. These topics are worth talking about.”

Along with Tumbbad, Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta’s popular film Veer Zaara will re-release on September 13. Kareena Kapoor’s most anticipated film, The Buckingham Murders, will also hit screens on the same date.
