After delivering two back-to-back successful war drama films, namely Raazi and Uri: The Surgical Strike, Vicky Kaushal will once again be seen donning the avatar of an army man in filmmaker Meghna Gulzar's upcoming film Sam. Kaushal will play the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army and best-known for commanding the Indian forces during the India-Pakistan war in 1971.
Sharing the news about the upcoming film, while also revealing Kaushal's first look in the period war-drama, Gulzar wrote on Twitter, "A Soldier’s Soldier. A Gentleman’s Gentleman. In remembrance, on the death anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. It is my honour to tell the story of one of India's greatest war heroes, with @vickykaushal09 essaying the historic man! @RonnieScrewvala @RSVPMovies (sic)."

The swashbuckling general & the first Field Marshal of India- SAM MANEKSHAW. I feel honoured & proud of getting a chance to unfold his journey on-screen. Notably, Sam is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala under RSVP films, which delivered the hugely successful Uri earlier this year. Kaushal is currently working on Shoojit Sircar's biopic on Udham Singh, while Gulzar has wrapped up the shoot of Chhapaak, featuring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey. The film is inspired from the real-life story of Delhi’s acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and releases on 10 January 2020.
