August 15 is going to be a busy day for cinephiles, who can look forward to several high-budgeted film clashes. From the world of Tamil cinema, two new releases are set to have a showdown at the box office: Thangalaan and Andhagan. Both the releases will feature some of the biggest names in South Indian cinema.
Thangalaan is a Pa Ranjith directorial, which stars actor Vikram in the titular role. While Andhagan, directed by Thiagarajan, is set to feature Prashanth as the lead. Expectations are high with both releases, as Thangalaan has generated buzz for its star-studded cast and the grand world it is going to capture. And Andhagan will capture Prashanth portraying a unique character: a blind pianist.
Vikram will be seen in the role of a deadly tribal leader, who will be battling a sorceress named Arathi (played by Malvika Mohanan). As per the reports, Thangalaan was supposed to be released in April but faced postponement due to the Lok Sabha elections.
Thangalaan’s cast also includes names like Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy and Daniel Caltagirone among others. It is being produced by K E Gnanavel Raja, Pa Ranjith and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Studio Green, Neelam Productions and Jio Studios. For music, the makers roped in G V Prakash Kumar. The cinematographer is A Kishor Kumar while the editing is being done by Selva R K. It is made in a reported budget of Rs 100 to Rs 150 crore.
On the other hand, Thiagarajan’s Andhagan includes Prashanth as the lead, along with Simran, Priya Anand, Karthik, Yogi Babu, K S Ravikumar and Samuthirakani. The film is being produced by Shanthi Thiagarajan and Preethi Thiagarajan under the banner of Staar Productions. Santhosh Narayanan is composing the music and the cinematography is done by Ravi Yadav while Sathish Suriya is the editor. It is based on the 2018 Bollywood release Andhadhun, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and directed by Sriram Raghavan.
