Watch: Andrew Garfield Gets Emotional Talking About His Mother's Death With Elmo
Andrew Garfield recently talked about the grief he experienced after his mother passed away.

Actor Andrew Garfield is busy with the promotions of his upcoming romantic drama We Live In Time, in which he stars alongside Florence Pugh. In a departure from his usual cheerful demeanour, the Spider-Man actor recently opened up about his experience with grief following the loss of his mother. During a conversation with Elmo, Andrew revealed that he misses his mom and his emotional confession has won the hearts of the people on the internet.

In a video shared by Elmo on social media, the Sesame Street muppet was seen checking on the actor as he greeted him. Andrew said that he was doing fine and emotionally revealed, “I’m just thinking about my mom today. She passed away not too long ago, and you know, I just miss her a lot.” The Hacksaw Ridge actor’s mother passed away in 2019 after battling against pancreatic cancer.

Elmo then expressed his sorrow for his loss, but the actor tried to lighten the mood by saying, “It’s okay to miss somebody.” Saying that sadness can be a “gift”, Andrew added, “Sadness is kind of a gift, kind of a lovely thing to feel in a way because it means that you really loved somebody when you miss them. And when I miss someone, when I miss my mom, I remember all the cuddles I used to get from her. All the hugs I used to get from her. It makes me feel close to her when I miss her, in a strange way.”

He further mentioned that he can celebrate his mom and miss his mother at the same time. “So, I am happy to have all the memories of my mum and the joy she brought me and the joy she brought my brother and dad. Everyone she ever met, everyone around her. So when I miss her, I remember it’s because she made me so happy that I can celebrate her, and I can miss her at the same time,” concluded The Social Network actor.

After the actor shared his heartfelt feelings, Elmo stated that he felt very happy that Andrew shared such a personal thing with him. The muppet even said that he would celebrate and keep Andrew’s mother in his thoughts.

Towards the end of the video, Andrew makes another revelation: “Nothing would make me happier, and nothing will make her happy because you know what? I gotta tell something, tell a secret. Are you ready?” As Elmo says, “Yes,” the actor discloses, “Elmo is my mummy’s favourite,” leaving the muppet very happy. The duo then embrace each other.

Over 4 million people have viewed the video in just a day since it was posted. Many shared that Andrew’s take on grief tugged at their heartstrings, and others praised the actor’s honesty about his feelings.
