Web Series Based On The Famous Lakshmikanthan Murder Case Soon? What We Know
As per reports, director AL Vijay is set to make a web series, based on the high-profile case of film journalist CN Lakshmikanthan’s murder.

High-profile and infamous cases involving huge celebrities are the best source materials to develop engaging web series or shows. According to reports, a similar web series is in the works, which is going to be based on the Lakshmikanthan murder case, a case that shocked the whole state of Tamil Nadu in the 1940s.

If the reports are to be believed, director AL Vijay is set to make a web series, based on the high-profile case of film journalist CN Lakshmikanthan’s murder. Reportedly, the actors Natty Natarajan and Nazriya have been roped in to play important roles in the series. The official announcement regarding the series is expected soon by an OTT platform.

On November 8, 1944, Tamil film journalist CN Lakshmikanthan was attacked by a group of unknown assailants, and one of them stabbed him in the abdomen. The incident was reported to have taken place in Vepery, Chennai (then Madras) when Lakshmikanthan was returning to his home after visiting a friend. Succumbing to his injuries he died the next day at 4:15 am, on November 9, 1944.

Then in the following days of the murder, around six suspects were arrested by the police, based on Lakshmikanthan’s description of the incident. The arrests included the actors MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and NS Krishnan, and filmmaker SM Sriramulu Naidu.

Thyagaraja Bhagavathar was at his career’s peak and was regarded as the biggest actor in the Tamil film industry during the time of his arrest. Naturally, it caused a scandal in the state of Tamil Nadu. The situation worsened for him when he was found guilty of the crime, along with NS Krishnan, while Sriramulu Naidu was acquitted. They appealed to the Madras High Court, but it was turned down.

So, the two actors had to stay in jail until 1947. Only after the successful appeal by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the charges were dropped after a retrial. After this incident, Bhagavathar was never able to regain his stardom, nor the money, and died in 1959.
