Sometimes the thing that gets someone to finish a job they started is an excruciating creative process. Thus, it’s not unusual to hear actors complain that their directors forced them to enrol in a class, take up a new sport, or even alter their way of life for them to feel authentic in a role But occasionally, people become overly engrossed in what they’re doing, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the director of the 1998 film Kareeb, appears to have experienced something similar at one point.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is currently basking in the massive critical success of his most recent film 12th Fail. The filmmaker has made many classics like Parinda, 1942: A Love Story and Mission Kashmir. Going by his excellent track record and exceptional directing skills, it is not hard to believe that Vidhu Vinod Chopra would expect nothing less than perfection from his actors and would go to any lengths to retrieve the required skills out of an actor. However, looks like he went a bit overboard with debutante actress Shabana Raza (also known as Neha) while making the film Kareeb. Bobby Deol, who starred in the movie opposite Shabana opened up about it.
Approximately two years ago, an old print interview featuring Bobby Deol was shared by someone. In the interview, Bobby discussed the experience of filming the movie. He stated that although he experienced nothing, the leading lady, Neha, who was a newcomer had to deal with the director’s rage during a specific scene’s filming.
So, Someone shared an old Filmfare interview of Bobby Deol from 2001 where he talked about few of his heroines and this part about Neha Bajpai just made my Jaw Drop, WTF is wrong with Vidhu Vinod Chopra ! pic.twitter.com/Iixiay11Lz— ???????????????? (@NaviKRStan) April 20, 2020
In a particular scene, Neha had to give Bobby her left hand but she was getting confused each time. Vidhu Vinod Chopra asked her to bite her right hand so that she remembered. But even after 20 takes, when she could not get the shot right, the director lost his cool and went and bit her right hand. Bobby said that he was left too shocked to react and Neha was shivering in fear. However, she got the shot right in the very next take.
Kareeb was Bobby Deol’s third film and Neha’s very first. The actress could not sustain herself in the industry for long and later quit acting after getting married to Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee.
