Amid Animal Release, Ranbir Kapoor's Old Comment Goes Viral: 'I Wouldn't Do Role Which Belittles...'
Ranbir Kapoor had said earlier that given his position, he is conscious of the roles he does and has to represent certain value systems.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal started a massive debate online soon after its release on December 1. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial film has created quite a controversy surrounding its main character – Ranbir Kapoor’s Vijay. After Sandeep’s Arjun (Arjun Reddy) and Kabir (Kabir Singh), netizens have added Vijay to the director’s list of misogynistic characters. Amid this, Ranbir’s old interview has gone viral wherein he said he chooses his roles consciously.

In the viral clip, Anupama Chopra could be seen talking about Ranbir’s character from Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhooti Main Makkar. Anupama said, “You are doing a film with Luv Ranjan, who of course, is a massively successful director. But his films are really steeped in misogyny. Do you as an actor worry or think about the images or art you’re putting out there?”

Ranbir replied, “I have not been a part of those films. I’m working with a director who, according to you, has made say a misogynistic film. But I’m quite conscious of the parts I do and that it’s not a part which is belittling society or something which I feel is unfair. I wouldn’t do it because understanding the position I’m in, I have to be conscious, I have to be aware. I have to represent certain value systems that I want to express. The film with Luv Ranjan is not that.”

The video resurfaced on Reddit after the release of Animal and quickly went viral on the microblogging site. One person commented, “Oh no….this did not age well.” Another added, “Just how fast the night changes.” One person wrote, “Someone said there is a difference between a misogyny being portrayed and a misogynistic film. Animal is a misogynistic film.”

One person commented, “Living in his own la la land.” Another added, “Imagine saying something like this publicly and then doing a movie like Animal.” Another person commented, “Ranbir needed Animal for the numbers.” Someone else wrote, “Those who want to act like his character would have anyway done it.”

Animal has so far collected Rs 241.43 crore domestically, thus emerging as the biggest film of Ranbir Kapoor’s career.
