Mumbai: In Relief to Motorists, Second Arm of Delisle Bridge May Open Before Ganeshotsav
Currently, all traffic is diverted to Elphinstone ROB in the north and Chinchpokli ROB in the south, both of which are also British-era bridges.

After more than two months since the opening of one section of the Lower Parel’s crucial Delisle road over-bridge, linking G K Marg to N M Joshi Marg, BMC is now planning to unveil the left segment of the second arm, connecting Lower Parel to Currey Road, in time for Ganeshotsav, which commences on September 19.

According to civic officials, the concreting work has been completed, and efforts are underway for asphalt-related tasks on this stretch.

The Delisle bridge was closed after an inspection by IIT-Bombay, following the Gokhale bridge incident in Andheri in July 2018, which reported corrosion. As a crucial connector, linking stations on the central and western railway lines, along with main roads, the business hubs of Lower Parel, Worli, Currey Road, Lalbaug, and Prabhadevi suffered from its closure for restoration.

Currently, all traffic is diverted to Elphinstone ROB in the north and Chinchpokli ROB in the south, both of which are also British-era bridges.

While the opening of a portion of the second arm will provide relief to local residents and commuters, there are concerns that the influx of devotees for Ganpati darshan in Lalbaug and surrounding areas, starting from September 19, may strain the structure.
