The Grimae Awards of 2023 recently showcased the noteworthy achievements of various film projects and actors. Initiated in 1993 by the Korean Directors of Photography Society (KDPS), these awards are held annually and spotlight film directors who have exhibited outstanding and experimental cinematography in projects produced by each broadcasting company in the preceding year. Actors are reportedly chosen for the awards based on the votes they receive from a team of directors. This year, the coveted Grand Prize was bestowed upon My Dearest, a production that recently concluded its run with an impressive peak rating of 12.9 per cent.
Actor Namgoong Min, the male lead in the popular Korean drama clinched the Best Actor award, while his co-star and female lead on the show, Ahn Eun Jin was honoured with the Best Actress award, reports Soompi.

Expressing gratitude to the production team, Namgoong Min said, “I think it’s been around 24 years since I’ve been standing in front of the camera. As time passes, I really feel the importance of the filming and lighting directors.” He further added, “My Dearest was able to succeed due to the directors,” conveying his respect and gratitude for the directors and staff.
Actress Ahn Eun Jin, sharing insights into her experience, reflected on the initial challenges of the project and how they dissolved once on set. “Before starting to film My Dearest, it was a very difficult project I had a lot of concerns about. However, when I arrived on set, that all became resolved. I filmed while relying on the directors as well as all the staff on set,” she reportedly explained.

My Dearest is a fictional romance drama, revolving around Jang Hyun, a purposeless and indifferent man, whose encounter with Gil Chae introduces him to the complexities of love. Set against the backdrop of a love triangle involving Gil Chae, her first love Yeon Jun, and Yeon Jun’s engagement to her best friend Eun Ae, the plot explores the intricate emotions of the characters amid the outbreak of war.
In addition to the lead actors, directors Kim Jung Yong, Cheon Soo Jin, and Lee Han Joon reportedly bagged the Directing Award, while director Kwon Min Goo earned recognition with the Lighting Award at the 2023 Grimae Award show.
