Netflix Pays THIS Amount To Acquire Digital Rights Of Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Kushi: Report

Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s latest film Kushi turned out to be an immense hit at the box office. In just a week of its release, the Siva Nirvana directorial minted Rs 71.95 crore worldwide. Although the number was on the rise, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan which premiered on September 7 hampered Kushi’s box office progress. Amidst this, the makers have finalised the release date of Kushi on the OTT platform. The confirmed report is that Kushi will be available for streaming on Netflix from October 1. Additionally, the OTT giant has bagged the digital rights of Kushi at a whopping price.

According to a report by OTT Play, Netflix has acquired the digital rights of Kushi at a hefty cost of Rs 30 crores. Reportedly, this marks the only Vijay Deverakonda film which has been sold at such an expensive amount. As we all know, the actor’s previous film Liger, where he shared screen space opposite Anaya Panday was a terrible box-office disappointment. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the action romance grossed 60.80 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 90 crore. However, when comparing Liger with Kushi, the latter has done far better business.

On September 24, Netflix India dropped Kushi’s poster, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda on Instagram, announcing the film’s OTT release date. “Now screaming, kicking, and giggling with Khushi because Kushi is coming to Netflix. Arrives on 1 October in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi,” the caption read.

Previously the makers dropped the announcement of Kushi back in 2019. The initial release date of the film was supposed to be in December 2022. However, the shoot got delayed due to Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s health scare. The actress was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition known as myositis. Expressing gratitude towards his fans for patiently waiting for Kushi’s release, Vijay Deverakonda penned a heartwarming note on X that read, “You all waited for 5 years, with me. Patiently waiting for me to do my thing! We did it today. Waking up to this happiness from all around and my phone to hundreds of messages. I cannot help but tear up with emotions. I love you all.”

The plot revolves around Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) and Aaradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) who fall in love during a Kashmir vacation. Facing opposition from their families, the duo ties the knot anyway. But soon after, their marriage hits a rough patch.
