The Hollywood award season is currently in full bloom, with all eyes eagerly anticipating the grand culmination at The Academy Awards following the Golden Globes’ prestigious spectacle earlier this month. However, amidst the glitz and glamour of these highly sought-after awards, there exists an accolade that holds a different kind of prominence – one that no one in the industry actively desires. Enter the Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies or Razzie Awards. As described by the official X (Formally known as Twitter) account of the Razzies, these awards, represented by a $4.97 (approx. 413 Rupees) gold spray-painted trophy, are presented to the otherwise esteemed talents who perhaps should have exercised better judgment in associating their names with subpar projects.
While injecting a much-needed dose of humor into the typically tense and anxious award season in Tinseltown, one of the nominees of this year’s Razzies Awards has garnered a less-than-enthusiastic response from both viewers and fans of the nominated actors.
The list of Razzie nominations for 2024 is now public, and leading the pack with seven nominations across various categories is Expend4bles. Following closely behind are The Exorcist: Believer, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, each securing multiple nominations.
Among the most notable and surprising nominees for the anti-Oscar awards, this year’s list includes Chris Evans for Ghosted, Jennifer Lopez for The Mother, and Russell Crowe for his role in The Pope’s Exorcist, earning him a worst actor nomination that has prompted a strong response from his fans on social media.
Film critic Courtney Howard expressed her dissatisfaction with the nominations on X, stating, “The Razzies are once again showing their irrelevance.” Others joined in, with one fan defending Crowe, asserting, “Crowe absolutely understood the assignment,” and another calling for the cancellation of the Razzies altogether.
Imagine watching Russell Crowe on a Vespa scooting around Rome (with Faith No More playing in the background foreshadowing his own faith about to be tested) and thinking “This stinks!” The Razzies are once again showing their irrelevance. pic.twitter.com/0DLXwd7smd— Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) January 22, 2024
The #Razzies are dumb, of course, but nominating Russell Crowe in THE POPE'S EXORCIST for Worst Actor is dumb even by their dumb standards. That movie rules and Crowe absolutely understood the assignment. pic.twitter.com/WY2YWUMisq— Ben Deutsch (@BenLikesMovies) January 22, 2024
we need to cancel the Razzies once and for all over this https://t.co/lRuyeuePCn pic.twitter.com/JPzFH6sTAl— Alistair Ryder (@YesitsAlistair) January 22, 2024
“I can’t argue with anything else on this list of Razzie nominations but Russell Crowe was awesome in The Pope’s Exorcist and the only reason that movie was so entertaining. Take it back,” said another fan.
I can't argue with anything else on this list of Razzie nominations but Russell Crowe was fucking awesome in The Pope's Exorcist and the only reason that movie was so entertaining. Take it back, you cowards! pic.twitter.com/CdefgiXlVa— We Watched A Movie (Mike) (@WeWatchedAMovie) January 22, 2024
“Normally I ignore the Razzie Awards, but I won’t this year because they need to un-nominate Russel Crowe for The Pope’s Exorcist. He really showed up for that little film and is the reason that it’s watchable. He does not deserve this nomination,” read another comment, disagreeing with the nomination.

Apart from this, some more popular actors nominated for the Golden Raspberry Awards 2024 includes Vin Diesel for Fast X, Ana de Armas for Ghosted, Megan Fox for Johnny & Clyde, Salma Hayek and Channing Tatum for Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Michael Douglas and Bill Murray for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
Founded in 1981, the Razzies aims to (dis)honour the least successful films of the year. Razzie nominations are determined by a select committee before ballots are issued to the membership, making it possible for anyone to become a voting member by paying an annual fee of $40 (approx. 3,326 Rupees) or opting for a lifetime membership at $500 (approx. 41,576 Rupees).
Co-founded by UCLA film graduates John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy, the Razzie Awards’ satirical annual ceremony is all set to have its 44th edition this year.
