At least three people have been arrested in Chhattisgarh in connection with the sensational Rs 25-crore robbery from a jewellery shop in Delhi’s Bhogal area. Police has also recovered a large amount of gold from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Lokesh Srivastava, Shiva Chandravanshi, and another unnamed person, according to a report by NDTV.

“Rs 12.50 lakh in cash and over 18-kilogram gold and diamonds seized from an accused in Durg,” said Superintendent of Police, Bilaspur, Santosh Singh.

A Delhi Police team is in Chhattisgarh in connection with the probe. The thieves were reportedly also active in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

In one of the biggest burglaries in the national capital, accused people broke into the shop, made a hole in a strong room, and decamped with ornaments worth more than Rs 20 crore as well as Rs 5 lakh in cash earlier this week.

The shop, Umrao Singh Jewellers, in south Delhi’s Bhogal, had several CCTV cameras but they were damaged around Sunday midnight.

The owner closed the shop on Sunday around 8 pm and when he opened it on Tuesday around 10.30 am, he got to know about the incident.

Thieves first broke into the terrace of a four-story building next to the store. From there, they reached the ground floor where the strongroom was located, disconnected CCTV cameras, and drilled a hole into the wall to enter the locker.

Apart from ornaments in the locker, robbers also stole the jewellery kept on display at the showroom.
