Chaos ensued in the Lower House of the Parliament when two intruders entered the premises and released canisters emanating yellow-coloured smoke on Wednesday. The breach was allegedly planned by seven individuals, who had been in touch with each other for quite a while before carrying out the attack.

The mastermind of the conspiracy, Lalit Mohan Jha was arrested by Special Cell in New Delhi late Thursday night.

Here’s how Intruders Planned the Parliament Security Breach –

  • While proceedings were underway in Lok Sabha under the Winter Session of the Parliament, two intruders stormed the premises with canisters that emitted coloured smoke on Thursday.
  • The breach took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks.
  • According to the initial probe by security agencies, the breach was well-coordinated and meticulously planned, allegedly by seven people, six of whom have been nabbed.
  • In 2022, Lalit Jha, 26-year-old Sagar Sharma, and 34-year-old Maoranjan D met in Karnataka’s Mysuru and made a plan to barge into the parliament to attract the attention of the country.
  • The trio was later joined by 37-year-old Neelam and 25-year-old Amol. The group of five joined a Bhagat Singh fan page on Facebook.
  • Lalit Jha, allegedly the main mind behind the conspiracy, asked Manoranjan to conduct a recce of the Parliament building earlier this year in July.
  • On Sunday, the group of five met at Gurugram resident Vishal Sharma’s house and stayed there till Tuesday.
  • On Wednesday morning, all five left for the Parliament building. Manoranjan had already procured visitor passes through Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha.
  • Sagar and Manoranjan entered the new Parliament building and into the visitors’ gallery.
  • At around 1:00 pm, Sagar made the jump from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber carrying a smoke canister. Manoranjan also tried to jump and was seen hanging from the railing. The duo had hidden smoke canisters inside their shoes.
  • They released yellow-coloured gas from canisters in the Parliament.
  • Chaos ensued but the duo were caught and thrashed by the MPs in the House and handed over to security personnel.
  • Around the same time, Neelam and Amol released gas from similar canisters and raised slogans outside the Parliament building.
  • Lalit, meanwhile, recorded a video that later surfaced on Instagram.
  • While Neelam and Amol were caught by the police, while Lalit managed to escape at the time.
  • Sagar, Manoranjan, Neelam and Amol were then taken to Parliament Street Police Station.
  • A case under the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered against all of them.
  • Vishal and his wife were also detained from Gurugram.
  • Later the Special Cell of Delhi Police joined the investigation. On Thursday, Patiala House Court granted 7-day custody of all four accused to the Delhi Police Special Cell.
  • Mastermind of the conspiracy, Lalit Mohan Jha was arrested by Special Cell in New Delhi late Thursday night.
  • An anti-terror unit special cell is investigating the case.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high level meeting over the breach. BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal were also present at the meeting.
