Nearly 24 hours after India lost in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, the BCCI named a 15-man squad for a five-match T20I series against Australia that starts from Thursday.
On expected lines, several of the names that featured in the world cup haven’t made it to the list considering how the team management has preferred youngsters keeping the future in mind.
However, the absence of a certain Yuzvendra Chahal did raise eyebrows and the legspinner has reacted on social media following his omission.
Chahal posted a smiling emoji on a post on his account on X (formerly Twitter) which means contentment.

Several users flooded the comment session of his viral post with suggestions on what he needs to do to get back into the scheme of things while others pondered the reason behind his post.
Chahal last played a T20I for India during the Caribbean tour but wasn’t selected for the Ireland tour that followed.
With India ignoring him for the ODI World Cup as well, Chahal wasn’t picked for the Asian Games as a young squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, returned with gold medal from China.
India’s Highest Wicket-taker in T20Is
The 33-year-old Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in T20Is for India.
Since making his debut in 2016, he has taken 96 wickets from 80 matches including a career-best figures of 6/25. He averages 25.09 and has an economy of 8.19.
The next best Indian on the list is Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has 90 wickets from 87 T20Is but hasn’t played a T20I since the New Zealand tour last year.
Bishnoi Preferred
The selectors have put faith in the young Ravi Bishnoi as the lone specialist spinner in the squad. The 23-year-old legspinner has played 16 T20Is so far and taken 25 wickets at an economy of 6.81.
Allrounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will also man the spin department alongside the youngster.
The squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav who recently featured for India in the world cup final as Australia lifted a record-extending sixth title.
India’s squad: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar
