South Africa legendary batter AB de Villiers shared his views on Chennai Super Kings retaining their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the legendary wicketkeeper batter is all set to play another season of the Indian Premier League next year. Dhoni, who played with a knee injury last season, said after the IPL 2023 final that he will work on his fitness and will try to play in 2024 which will be a gift from his side to the fans. And now with CSK retaining him ended all speculations as he will be returning for one more season in a yellow jersey for IPL 20
Dhoni, who is 42 years old, underwent a knee injury after the last season of IPL as CSK also mentioned him as skipper in their retention list for the next season.
De Villiers asserted that he was happy seeing Dhoni’s name on the retention list and suggested nobody knows whether he will continue to play even after next season.
“I see that man’s name on the retention list, and it just makes me happy. There was a lot of talk about it in the last season about whether it was going to be his last season. He is moving on to 2024 to play another IPL season. With him, he is always full of surprises. Maybe he has got three more to go, who knows? But It is just great to see his name on there,” De Villiers said on his YouTube Channel.
The former RCB great also talked about CSK’s potential target in the IPL 2024 auction Shahrukh Khan who was released by Punjab Kings.
“He (Shahrukh Khan) is a strong player and is pretty consistent,” de Villiers stated. “I am very sure some of the teams will be very keen to get him over there. He hits the ball a long way as well. That’s where CSK stand out. They are very good at picking up released players,” he added.
De Villiers said that the forgotten players who joined CSK suddenly started performing exceedingly well.
“Guys who seem to be forgotten, all of a sudden play in the yellow jersey and are in the top five run-scorers list or wicket-taking list,” he said.
