All-rounder Imad Wasim suggested that Pakistan captain Babar Azam has failed to prove his worth in the pressure situations as the last crucial knock he played in a big match was way back in 2019. Babar is going through a lean patch as he scored just one half-century in the ongoing ODI World Cup, he also had a dry run in Asia Cup 2023 where he started with a 153-run knock against Nepal but failed in the big matches.
The ICC number 1 ranked has come under scrutiny for his below-par show in the big tournaments including Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, Asia Cup 2023 and the ongoing ODI WC.

Meanwhile, he also failed to impress as captain in the pressure situations this WC as Pakistan have lost two of their 4 matches thus far. They failed to give a fight to India in the marquee clash at Narendra Modi Stadium and crumbled under pressure.
Imad pointed out Babar’s poor run at the big stages and said the last time he performed in a big match was way back in the 2019 World Cup match against New Zealand.
“At the world stage there is pressure, but it is also the place where you prove your worth. I think the last time Babar performed in a big match was against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, when he scored a century. But after that, he is yet to win a big match for Pakistan. This is not criticism but a fact,” Wasim was quoted as saying to a local TV channel.
The out-of-favour Pakistan all-rounder further said that Babar needs to take the onus on himself to bat in accordance with the team’s requirements as he is the ranked number 1 batter in the ICC listing.
“Being the number one batter in ODIs, it is Babar’s responsibility to win matches but questions will be raised if he doesn’t do that. He needs to bat in accordance with the team’s requirements. He has the ability to dominate bowlers and this World Cup is the place to do that,” he added.
