In a major crackdown on terror activities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is carrying out raids across 40 locations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
Sources told News18 that the raids are related to last year’s blasts in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore and Karnataka’s Mangaluru which took place on October 23, 2022, and November 19, 2022, respectively. Sources added that the raids are a follow up to the recent arrests in these cases.
NIA searches are being carried out based on the inputs received during the enquiry from the Coimbatore suicide attack accused, sources said. In Tamil Nadu, NIA sleuths conduct searches at locations across Chennai , Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Thirunelveli districts.
The NIA probe began on October 27 last year in the case pertaining to a bomb blast in a car laden with explosives in front of Kottai Eswaran Temple of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu on October 23. Eleven accused persons were arrested earlier by the anti-terror agency in the case which Tamil Nadu Police initially registered a complaint on October 23 last year.
The deceased accused, Jamesha Mubeen, after swearing bayath (allegiance) to ISIS was planning to carry out a suicide attack and cause extensive damage to the Temple Complex with the intention to strike terror in the community, NIA had said in a statement.
“Investigations have revealed that the accused persons had entered into a criminal conspiracy in the interior of forested regions of Asanoor and Kadambur areas of Sathyamangalam forest, Erode district, in February, 2022,” NIA had said.
Latest information coming in over the raids being carried out tells that residential premises belonging suspects are being searched on the basis of investigational findings.

-Tamil Nadu: 34 locations (Coimbatore-15, Tirupur-2, Nilgiris-2, Tiruchi-1, Dindigul 1, Chennai-3, Tuticorin-1, Tirunelveli-3, Tiruvanamalai-2, Nagapatinam-1, Tenkasi-1, Krishnagiri-1 and Kanyakumari-1)
-Kerala: 5 locations (Ernakulam-04, Aluva-1)
-Karnataka: 1 location (Mysore-1)
