The Punjab Kings set out in search of the piece of silverware that seems to be eluding them despite their constant presence in the money-rich franchise T20 league IPL. They retained the core unit for the next season and went big for the two fast-bowling all-rounders Harshal Patel and Chris Woakes to strengthen their bowling unit.
Punjab went all out on Harshal, who won the Purple Cap in IPL 2021, as they battled it out with Gujarat Titans to sign him.
Chris Woakes was a smart buy at INR 4.20 crore. However, in the end, they went all out for Rilee Rossouw in the accelerated round when they had to fill the last spot. Rossouw who went unsold in the first round, raked up big with an INR 8 crore bid.

The Shikhar Dhawan-led side finished in the eighth position in the previous edition of the IPL as they failed to make it to the playoffs yet again. And the side from Punjab will look for a change in fortunes in the upcoming season.
Punjab have a promising batting order as witnessed from last season including the likes of the maverick Dhawan at the top of the order, supported by the talented Jitesh Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, who played some quality knocks in the previous season.
PBKS released Indians Shahrukh Khan, Baltej Singh, Mohit Rathee, Raj Bawa and Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksa ahead of the auction.
The Preiy Zinta, Ness Wadia-owned unit are one of the few teams that is yet to taste success in the IPL and will look to rewrite history as they gear up for another campaign.
