'Sankalp Saptaah': PM Modi Says Aspirational Blocks Programme Symbol of Team India's Success
The aim of the programme is to improve governance at the block level in order to enhance the quality of life of citizens. So far, it is being implemented in 500 aspirational blocks across 329 districts in the country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a unique week-long programme for aspirational blocks in the country called ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ is linked to the effective implementation of the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), according to an official release.

Addressing the programme, Prime Minister Modi said Block Panchayats play a huge role in the Aspirational Blocks Programme.

“Only when every Gram Panchayat works fast then the development of every block could happen rapidly. I congratulate and thank all those who are associated with this mission,” he said.

MP Modi asserted that for him, the ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ programme was as significant as the G20 summit.

“The Bharat Mandapam, where world leaders had gathered to discuss global issues, is now hosting individuals who bring about changes at the grassroots level…This program is a symbol of the success of Team India. This symbolizes the spirit of everyone’s effort. This program is also important for the future of India. In this there is a reflection of accomplishment through resolution,” he said.

He noted that the Aspirational Districts Program has changed the lives of more than 25 crore people in 112 districts of the country.

“There has been a change in the quality of life…Now, the success of the aspirational districts programme will form the basis of the aspirational blocks programme,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister said the government want to see the country as a developed India in 2047.

“But developed country does not mean that grandeur should be seen in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and our villages should be left behind, we do not follow that model. We want to take charge of the destiny of 140 crore people and bring about a change in their lives,” he said.

He further noted that the government has worked with a very simple strategy for the Aspirational District Programme. “If we do not do all-round development, all-touching development, all-beneficial development, then the figures may give satisfaction, but fundamental change is not possible. Therefore, it is necessary that we move forward by making changes at the grassroots,” he added.

What Is Aspirational Blocks Programme

The nationwide programme was launched by PM Modi on January 7, 2023. The aim of the programme is to improve governance at the block level in order to enhance the quality of life of citizens. So far, it is being implemented in 500 aspirational blocks across 329 districts in the country.

For implementing the aspirational blocks programme and to prepare an effective block development strategy, chintan shivirs were organised at village and block levels across the country, the statement said.

The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ is a culmination of these chintan shivirs. ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ will be observed in all of the 500 aspirational blocks.

Each day in ‘Sankalp Saptaah’, starting from October 3 till October 9, 2023, is dedicated to a specific development theme on which all aspirational blocks will work.

The themes for the first six days include ‘Sampoorna Swasthya’, ‘Suposhit Pariwaar’, ‘Swachhta’, ‘Krishi’, ‘Shiksha’, and ‘Samridhi Diwas’, the statement said.

The last day of the week i.e. October 9, 2023 will be a celebration of the work conducted during the entire week, as ‘Sankalp Saptaah – Samavesh Samaroh’.
