Hardik Pandya outfoxed Azmatullah Omarzai to bring an end to his innings on 62 during India vs Afghanistan in New Delhi.

Hardik Pandya quite enjoyed dismissing Afghanistan batter Azmatullah Omarzai during India’s second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Delhi on Wednesday.

Pandya was all pumped up and animated after cleaning up the well-set Omarzai who had scored a fine half-century while stitching a massive partnership with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi for the fourth wicket in the national capital.

The partnership rescued Afghanistan from 63/3 after they opted to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

After settling in, both Omarzai and Shahidi began collecting boundaries regularly on a belter. The partnership grew to 121 for the fourth wicket with India desperate for a breakthrough.

India skipper Rohit Sharma brought back Hardik Pandya for a second spell after the right-arm pacer had taken a wicket in his first spell that saw him bowl four overs for just 16 runs.

The allrounder was creamed for 12 runs first up and started his sixth over by conceding a boundary off the first delivery to Omarzai.

He then bowled an off-cutter and lured Omarzai into playing the wrong line to have been bowled on 62 off 69.

Pandya let out his frustration of conceding boundaries with a loud shout.

This is the second match of the world cup for both the teams. India started their campaign with a six-wicket win over five-time world champions Australia in Chennai while Afghanistan were comprehensively beaten by Bangladesh in their tournament opener last week.

Afghanistan cricketers are wearing black armbands for this match as a mark of tribute to the victims of multiple earthquakes back home that have left over 1000s of people dead and caused extensive damage to property.

The players of the two teams also observed a minute’s silence before the national anthems to pray for the victims.
