Year Ender 2023: Allow us to introduce you to a few teachers who have impacted society positively this year

A teacher’s role in the upbringing of a child is just as important as that of a parent. Teachers provide us with the tools to grow over the years and enable us to notice and respond appropriately to a range of life situations. We have listed down a few of these amazing teachers who brought about positive changes in the society:

Dr Brajesh Pandey, Chhattisgarh:

Since 1987, Dr Brajesh Pandey has worked in the education department in Sitapur, Diet Ambikapur, Kanya Parisar, Latori, and Surguja, as well as Bijuri in Madhya Pradesh. He was the only teacher from Chhattisgarh to receive the National Teachers’ Award 2023 for his contributions to education. Dr Pandey also held the position of founding principal of DAV Model School, Parsa, Ambikapur. He turned it into Surguja’s top model school, where for the first time in the 12th board, students from rural areas made the merit list. As the principal of Parsa High School, Dr. Pandey was instrumental in turning the institution into a model institution in 2000, clearing 25 acres of encroachment in the process.

S Malathi, Tamil Nadu:

S Malathi, a teacher at VK Pudur Government Higher Secondary School in Tenkasi district’s Veerakeralam Pudur, holds the world record for taking online classes for 26 hours straight. Malathi teaches science, and she uses creative teaching methods with her students. Malathi uses puppet shows, archery, and mobile quiz games to teach the same material to students instead of asking them to memorise difficult chemistry formulas, equations, and the periodic table. This way, the lessons become engaging and easy for the students to remember.

Narayan Parameshwar Bhagwat and Sapna Shrishail Anigol, Karnataka:

Narayan Parameshwar Bhagwat, 55, is a teacher at Shri Marikamba Government PUC High School, Sirsi, in Uttara Kannada, which has 1,529 students and is said to be Karnataka’s most populous school. Bhagwat provides “infotaining” classes to his students by teaching them with the help of theatre. Reportedly, Bhagwat is a theatre performer who has specialised in children’s theatre and was named best director by the Ministry of Science and Technology last year for his work on the science drama ‘Story of Vaccine,’ which chronicles the route of vaccine discovery from Edward Jenner to Indian saints.

Sapna Shrishail Anigol, 47, is another Karnataka educator. She teaches science at KLE Society’s SCP Jr College High School in Bagalkot, North Karnataka, and her goal is to make scientific learning interesting and engaging in new ways. Sapna believes in reusable and recyclable products and encourages her students to do the same. She not only inspires students but also their parents to live in a more environmentally friendly manner.

Mujeeb Rahiman, Kanjikode & Chetna Khambete, Indore (KVS Teachers):

This year, two Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) teachers were selected for the National Teacher Award. Mujeeb Rahiman, a teacher from Kanjikode, and Chetna Khambete of KV-2 BSF, Indore received this honour for quality teaching in school education and making a positive difference in the lives of students. Rahiman, who is passionate about technology and work, made an important contribution to developing language skills in a new way and encouraging students to read.

Meanwhile, Chetna Khambete, a PGT (Biology) teacher, has been instrumental in creating a positive learning environment for her students. Her biology lab is a vibrant hub of applied knowledge with 3D models, teacher aids, charts, and interactive tools.
