The Aam Aadmi Party will be contesting the upcoming assembly polls in Haryana in full strength and on all seats, party leaders announced in Chandigarh on Thursday, leaving no scope of any alliance there.
Bhagwant Mann, Chief minister of Punjab, said that the people of Haryana want their “son Kejriwal” to have a government in the state, adding that Kejriwal belongs to Haryana.
He also released the party’s slogan for the polls: “Badlenge Haryana ka haal, ab lainge Kejriwal” (we will change Haryana’s situation and will bring Kejriwal).
Mann added that now AAP is a national party and has a government in two states – Delhi and Punjab. The party also has Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs apart from MLAs in Gujarat and Goa. They also have a presence in the local bodies too.
“People from all over the country are liking us. Kejriwal is from Haryana and the people of Haryana are proud that someone from them (Kejriwal) went to Delhi and contested elections and changed the politics of the entire country,” he said.
He said the people of Haryana requested them to contest elections there as they want change.
“We have a good attendance in all the democratic institutions. Haryana will have Assembly polls soon. We have decided that the party will contest the Haryana election with full strength. We have a government in Delhi and in Punjab. Half of Haryana touches Punjab and half touches Delhi… People want us to fight the election. The state has given chances to all the parties but none of them were loyal to Haryana. They all looted the state and now the people want change,” Mann said.
He added that the culture of Haryana is similar to Delhi and Punjab and some people are aware of Delhi work and some of Punjab and “they want these changes in Haryana too”.
“We have proved that our team is very good and we know how to fight as a team,” he said.
It is important to note that in the 2019 elections, AAP contested on 46 out of 90 seats in the state and failed on all securing less than one percent votes.
Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that from the last 10 years, the state had a double engine government. “These are not my worlds but Prime Minister’s. This is a very important question about what the double engine government has given to the state,” he said.
Explaining why AAP has taken this decision, Singh said that the state has seen and tested all the parties.
“We have seen how the state has witnessed extortion, violence, unemployment and farmers crisis,” Singh said, criticising the Agnipath Yojana. He said they will demand to roll back the scheme for Agniveers.
“People have expectations from AAP as we have proved thrice in Delhi and in two years in Punjab,” Singh said, adding that people will give a reply to all the parties who have looted the state in this election.
Sandeep Pathak, Singh’s colleague in Rajya Sabha and AAP’s National General Secretary, also said that the party will be fighting on all seats and all booths. He said the state has a lot of expectation from its “son Kerjiwal”
He also said that the party will hold a town hall on July 20 and Kejriwal’s guarantee for the state.
AAP party chief Kejriwal has been in jail in an alleged liquor scam. He is awaiting bail. The term of the Haryana assembly will end in October.
