New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician and north Mumbai MP Govinda is facing the heat for violating the model code of conduct by distributing money during Holi celebrations.
The Mumbai suburban collector has now submitted a report to the local Juhu Police to initiate action against him. Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer Debashish Chakrabarty had ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Additional collector Mumbai (suburb) Ashwini Joshi was quoted by agencies as saying that she had given a report to the Collector and on that basis, the collector has asked the Juhu police station to take action against Govinda.
On March 20, Govinda had submitted his second reply to Ashwini Joshi regarding the money distribution controversy during Holi day.
In his defence Govinda has said that it was a custom to distriobute money during Holi and that he was not even in his constituency at the time the incident - which was caught on camera - took place.
This is not the first time the star has been accused of violating the poll code. During the 2004 Parliamentary elections, the BJP had alleged that the actor used pictures of national personalities and saints on his campaign rath.
