Assam Minister contradicts Rahul Gandhi's claims, says he didn't even enter the temple

Guwahati: In a big embarrassment for the Congress, just hours after party Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the RSS stopped him from entering a temple in Assam last week, a minister from his own party in the state has countered his claim.

Assam Irrigation Minister Chandan Sarkar, who was overlooking Rahul's yatra arrangements said that he actually didn't enter the temple. According to Chandan Sarkar, Rahul did not have the time to observe local traditions like taking a wash and wearing a dhoti which is mandatory before entering the temple.

Sarkar has said Rahul didn't enter the temple as he didn't want to disrespect the priests.

"When I went to Assam I wanted to visit a temple in Barpeta district. And at the temple the RSS people they stopped me entering the temple. This is the way the BJP operates," Rahul had said.

"They made the woman there stand in front of me and told me that I cannot enter into the temple," he said, and asked, "Who are they to stop me?"

The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of lying demanding that he must apologise to the people of Assam. BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Rahul Gandhi is lying. He should apologise."

What's your reaction?
