Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ended their decade-old alliance on Saturday. But hours after snapping this tie-up, the BJD said it is not against joining the third front.
“We are not averse to join the third front. If the parties trying a third alternative approach us we will certainly consider their proposal," BJD MP and party's chief strategist Pyari Mohan Mohapatra told reporters in Bhubaneswar.
Mohapatra's statement assumes significance as it came a day after Communist Party of Inida - Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury made it clear that the third front would include BJD in its fold if the regional outfit severed its relationship with “communal” BJP.
Similar proposals had been made earlier by Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders who had asked BJD to snap its ties with BJP, particularly in the aftermath of communal violence in Kandhamal and other parts of Orissa.
Meanwhile, hectic parleys were on between several BJD leaders late into the night at the residence of Mohaptra after the collapse of the seat sharing talks and subsequent withdrawal of support to Patnaik government by BJP.
