Just few months to go before the 2009 General Elections, the main Opposition party BJP is veering towards a new agenda. After facing defeat in the crucial elections in Delhi and Rajasthan, the party could make economic meltdown and recession as one of its main poll plank.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, party president Rajnath Singh appeals to political fraternity not to make terror an election issue.
CNN-IBN: Will terror be an election issue in the Lok Sabha elections?
Rajnath Singh: Terror should not be looked at as an election issue. I want to humbly appeal to all the political parties that terror is not an election issue but an issue that concerns the entire nation.
CNN-IBN: But will you make it an issue?
Rajnath Singh: Whenever there are elections, political parties discuss and debate issue of national concern. We will put our point of view to the people.
CNN-IBN: But will inflation be an issue or not?
Rajnath Singh: No, but economic recession will be an issue. We will tell people that the government has not done enough to insulate the people from the global meltdown.
