Congress ally IUML reiterates support to UPA Govt
Sources say that the Muslim League was initially planning to pull out of the Government.

New Delhi: The oldest ally of Congress, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) reiterated its support to the Manmohan Singh Government on Saturday.

“Such a government has to be supported. We IUML representing minorities have to support it and we are with UPA,” says Minister of State for Foreign affairs, E Ahmed.

The IUML seems to be in a dilemma of making a choice between its old ally Congress and possible minority sentiments against the nuke deal.

Nonetheless, one of the most prominent Muslim faces of the UPA Government, E Ahmed has finally decided to stay with the government.

He is aware of the fact that it may make life difficult for his party in Kerala. However, he is confident of getting necessary clarifications from the Government in return for his support.

“Misinformation has been spread that our party is looking at ministership in the Government,” says E Ahmed.

According to sources, Muslim League was initially even planning to pull out of the Government.

However, the complete polarisation of Kerala politics and league's aversion towards both the Left and BJP have forced Ahmed to stand by the Monmohan Singh Government in its difficult times.
