Congress Rejig to See Young Turks Joining Rahul Gandhi's Team
The decision, which will see him take over the reins of the Grand Old Party from his mother Sonia Gandhi, has been hanging in the air ever since he became Congress vice president in 2013.

New Delhi: While the Congress is heading for a major rejig and vice president Rahul Gandhi is all set to take the baton from party chief Sonia Gandhi, a new and younger team will also take charge along with him.

Young Congress leaders Sachin Pilot, RPN Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Ajay Maken and Randeep Surjewala are likely to be inducted into Rahul's team, sources said.

Senior leaders of Rahul's father Rajiv Gandhi's era are likely to be phased out which has sparked tensions between the two camps, sources added.

Rahul's crowning as Congress president will also bring an end to a long running debate in Indian politics in recent times. It will also herald a generational shift in the Congress that is struggling for relevance following a series of electoral defeats.

The decision, which will see him take over the reins of the Grand Old Party from his mother Sonia Gandhi, has been hanging in the air ever since he became Congress vice president in 2013.

Congress is expected to hold a 'chintan shivir' (brainstorming session) in June either in party ruled Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand. The brainstorming session is being held at a time when Rahul's elevation to the party chief's post is being talked about in party circles.

Denying any information in this regard, senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said, "If leadership has decided to elevate Rahul Gandhi, I welcome it. But I have no information on this."
