Kohima: Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress in Nagaland got a setback when former Nagaland Assembly Speaker and AICC member Neiba Ndang resigned from the primary membership of the party.

In a statement in Kohima on Wednesday, Mr Ndang said that he tendered his resignation from primary membership of the party to the president of the Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) of Peren on Tuesday and would also convey the same to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and the state party leadership.

He said, ''I lost confidence in the party leadership as I was not satisfied with the activities of the party.''

He further accused the party of failing to keep its commitments even to those who have been dedicated and loyal to the party's principles for many years.

Mr Ndang was denied party ticket by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) for Assembly elections last year.

Earlier, four sitting Congress legislators resigned from Congress' membership and Assembly, alleging unsatisfactory activities of the state Congress leaders and had joined the Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) the major alliance partner of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland(DAN).
