New Delhi: The drubbing in Karnataka Assembly elections was not the only bad news for Congress on Sunday as the party also lost all three Lok Sabha by-elections for which results were declared.
Congress was nowhere in the fight for the Thane (Maharashtra) Lok Sabha seat which was won Shiv Sena’s Anand Paranjpe. Paranjpe won the by-election defeating his nearest rival Sanjeev Naik of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) by 90,872 votes.
In Tura (Meghalaya), NCP's Agatha Kongkal Sangma won by 99,855 votes, defeating Congress candidate Zenith Sangma. Agatha Kongkal Sangma is the daughter of former Lok Sabha speaker and NCP leader Purno Sangma.
In Himachal Pradesh BJP’s Anurag Thakur, son of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, won the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat by a margin of nearly 1,74,666 votes.
Former Congressman and ex-chief minister Bhajan Lal, contesting as Haryana Janhit Congress candidate, won the Adampur (Haryana) seat for the 10th consecutive time defeating his nearest Congress rival Ranjit Singh by a margin of over 22,000 votes.
Lal, was expelled from the Congress after he joined the Haryana Janhit Congress floated by his son Kuldeep Bishnoi last December.
In two other Sssembly by-elections in the state, the Congress retained Indri and Gohana seats.
In Punjab, the ruling Akali Dal won the Amritsar (south) Assembly seat.
