Seedhi (Madhya Pradesh): In June 2001, in an incident that shocked the world, Nepal's crown prince Dipendra shot and killed his father King Birendra, his mother queen Aishwarya and others of the Nepali royal family.
He then shot himself in the head. His alleged motives? Devyani Rana, the prince's beloved girlfriend who he was forbidden to marry.
Devyani may once have been the apparent cause for the Nepal royal family massacre but today, eight years later, she is a happy political wife.
Devyani is married to Aishwarya Singh, grandson of Congress stalwart Arjun Singh and son of his daughter Veena Singh.
"It's a privilege for me to be the daughter-in-law of this family. Public service is our mission. My father is in active politics in Nepal for 40 years and campaigning is not new to me" says Devyani.
With the Congress denying tickets to both Arjun Singh's children, Veena is contesting as an Independent from Seedhi and the attractive Devyani is busy campaigning.
She holds street-corner meetings is seen at a Congress rally to seek blessings from great dad in law Arjun Singh when Singh was in Seedhi to campaign for the official candidate of the Congress.
The Congress has checkmated Arjun Singh by giving a ticket to his acolyte Inderjeet Patel and the veteran may be feeling a little humiliated and could do with all help from his grand daughter-in law.
