New Delhi: BJP on Thursday alleged "wrong economic policies and poor governance" were responsible for the "bad situation" in the country.

"The country's present situation is not good and wrong economic policies and bad governance are responsible for it. Our GDP growth rate has gone below seven per cent and the state of agriculture growth is forcing farmers to commit

suicide", BJP President Nitin Gadkari said.

Speaking at a function here, he attacked the Planning Commission for suggesting a scale for measuring BPL and said the Commission "thinks that people can live with an earning of Rs 25 and Rs 35. What will they do with that? You need to pay Rs 5 to buy a good cup of tea."

He said BJP will celebrate December 25 the birthday of party veteran and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as "Good Governance Day".

Noting that BJP has made a mission to achieve 12 per cent economic growth and 10 per cent growth in agriculture, Gadkari said poverty eradication is "our biggest challenge and all political parties should have a target to address the situation".

Gadkari said BJP party was trying to set up institutes to train politicians for good governance.

He underlined the significance of trained professionals entering politics and contributing towards good governance.

"We are trying to set up institutes for good governance. We may get a two acre land in Delhi and I want our MPs and MLAs to get trained there to ensure good governance."
