Kolhapur: A keen race is on for NCP ticket from Kolhapur to contest ensuing Lok Sabha election.
The sitting MP Sadashivrao Mandlik is again in the race for for the party ticket. He won last three elections from this constituency. Dhananjay Mahadik, who lost the last LS election has now entered NCP and is one of the aspirants to contest MP poll from Kolhapur.
Dhananjay Mahadik is a youth leader and an industrialist. The another main aspirant is Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and Gadhinglaj MLA Baba Kupekar. Kupekar is veteran leader.
The next aspirant is Sambhajiraj, who is son of Shahu Maharaj, from the royal family. All these aspirants are powerful candidates and hence there is neck to neck competition for the NCP ticket
Kolhapur is bastion of NCP. Last two elections were won by Sadashivrao Mandlik, but this time the young candidates like Dhananjay Mahadik and Sambhajiraje are in the race.
Mandlik has putforth his son's name for the party ticket. Vikramsinh Ghadage, Royal family from Kagal, name is also in the race for NCP ticket.
On Tuesday there was interviews of the aspirants in Mumbai, the final decision is in the hands of NCP chief Sharad Pawar. After declaration of NCP candidates' names Shiv Sena will declare its candidates' names.
