Panaji: Congress leaders in Goa on Friday apologised to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a snag in the sound system that disrupted his speech at an election rally three days ago.
Talking to reporters, Goa Congress Working President Fracisco Sardinha blamed the contractor assigned the job to set up sound system for the audio glitch during the public meeting at Sankhalim on February 29.
"We are sorry to the Prime Minister for whatever happened," Sardinha said, adding the party had apologised to Singh on the stage itself when he was waiting for the sound system to be fixed.
Sardinha, a Member of Parliament who was also present on the dais, said he spoke with the Prime Minister about the technical snag and Singh said "it happens".
Asked whether the incident will affect the image of Congress in Goa which goes to the polls on Saturday, Sardinha said it was a mistake of the contractor.
"Congress image will not be affected at all. It will affect the image of the sound system contractor," he said. The sound system suddenly went off at the rally, about 40km from Panaji, when the Prime Minister was addressing about 30,000-strong crowd. It took about 30 minutes to rectify the fault.
