Madhya Pradesh Hikes ex-CMs' Pension by 700% to Rs 1.7 Lakh/Month
The increase in pension will not be given when a former chief minister occupy berth in the Union or the State Cabinet.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has secured his retirement and that of former chief ministers, too, by increasing the pension almost seven times from Rs 26,000 to Rs 1.70 lakh per month.

It's not only the salary, even allowances and other facilities of former chief ministers will be at par with the present one, according to the order.

The hike has give plenty of reasons to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and current Home Minister Babulal Gaur to grin from ear to ear.

"This is the decision for every chief minister whether he is Digvijaya Singh, Uma Bharti, Kailash Joshi, Sunderlal Patwa, me or even incumbent CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This is not for one party's chief minister," said Gaur.

However, this pension will not be given when a former chief minister occupies a position in the Union or the State Cabinet.

Ironically, the opposition Congress is not against the steep hike but couldn't resist taking a jibe at Chouhan.

"It's a natural process, I think. But I feel Shivraj Singh seems to be a man in hurry as if he is trying to secure his future," said Arun Yadav, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief.

Presently, Chouhan gets a salary of Rs 2 lakh per month and his government's latest order has ensure that he won't have to take a massive pay cut.
