Bhopal: From being a political novice to leading the BJP for a second term in the crucial state of Madhya Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Chauhan has come a long way, taking over the reins of the party in extreme circumstances.
With Uma Bharti spewing venom and Babu Lal gaur unable to match up to her tantrums, Shivraj..a former youth wing president spent most of his time in appeasing upset seniors within the BJP.
His toughest challenge though came when he was accused by the congress of being involved in a dumper scam.
"Every Indian has a right to earn a living. If I have done so what is the big deal, they are making a mountain out of a mole hill as they don't have anything else to do," says Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
This election in Madhya Pradesh is one which is actually minus any big ticket issue. In 2003, the campaign was against a corrupt arrogant Raja Digvijay Singh. In 2008, neither the congress nor the BJP have any big league leaders.
So the debate is largely veering around Development and corruption. Shivraj is flaunting his so called good track record on development and the congress out to project him as a corrupt man.
“I have done good for this state, got in some electricity fixed, roads built,” adds Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
His toughest challenge though comes from the his former mentor Uma Bharti. The job of taking her on has been left to his wife Sadhna Singh.
“He will form the government and will become CM,” says his wife Sadhna Singh.
To pass this exam, Shivraj has adopted a new mantra. Just keep smiling, whether the smile stays or not will be known on the December 8th when the ballot boxes are opened.
