Mumbai: The Mumbai Congress President's post has been lying vacant for nearly a year now, but the party has already begun preparations for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Congress has five out of the six parliamentary constituencies in Mumbai.
AICC has deployed Anjali Roy as observer to interact with party leaders and workers district wise. Party sources said she has held meetings with local leaders and legislators as well as block presidents and workers to understand the ground realities in Mumbai.
"She has been interacting with workers about party's strengths and weakness, performance of MPs and whether they can win again," sources added.
Roy is among the five observers deputed to hold meetings with party workers in the state in the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. "Decision on the new city unit president will be taken most probably after the Gujarat assembly elections. But that is an internal matter of the party and is no hindrance in initiating the exercise of beginning poll preparations," sources said.
Roy has held district wise meetings with legislators, leaders and workers at the party office. "MPs have not been called because all of them are in Delhi attending the Parliament session," sources added.
The Mumbai Congress president's post has been lying vacant since February this year after Kripashankar Singh quit following allegations of disproportionate assets and defeat of the Congress in the civic elections.
