Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to hold a cabinet meeting on Tuesday under a makeshift canopy in a village, for the first time in the history of the state, an official said on Monday.

Nitish Kumar would convene the meeting at Barbighee village under Balia block of Begusarai district, about 125 km from Patna. The Chief Minister would also camp overnight in the village, a member of the chief minister's office said.

"It will be a rare event in India when a state government holds its meeting in a village to take important decisions. History will be made," an official considered close to the Chief Minister said on condition of anonymity.

According to official sources, all members of Nitish Kumar's cabinet and secretaries of different departments would be ferried to Barbighee village by a Volvo bus to attend the meet.

When the Chief Minister last month began his 'Vikas Yatra' (Development March), aimed at reviewing development works initiated by the state government in rural areas and to hear people's grievances personally, he had said he would hold a cabinet meeting in a village if necessary.

The Nitish Kumar-led government has held 166 cabinet meetings since it came to power in November 2005 and Tuesday's meet, in all likelihood, would be held under a make-shift canopy, unlike the air-conditioned room of the state secretariat in Patna, the official source said.

Seated on plastic chairs, the top brass of the administration will partake in a simple meal during the meet, the source added.

Nitish Kumar has been camping in villages across Bihar during his Vikas Yatra to monitor implementation of different development schemes. He stops at a village every 25-30 km and spends a few hours meeting residents before reviewing development schemes with officials.
