No confidence motion against Guj Speaker dismissed
As many as 19 MLAs of the Gujarat Congress had given a notice for no confidence motion against the Speaker on March 1.

Gandhinagar: A no-confidence motion against Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ganpat Vasava, brought by Opposition Congress, was on Wednesday dismissed by a majority vote after Congress MLAs were suspended en-masse for the day.

The motion against Vasava was listed for adoption after the question and answer session.

However, it was taken up by the Speaker after allowing BJP MLA Shanker Chaudhary, whose name has figured in Tuesday's porn issue - to clarify his stand, while Congress MLAs continued shouting slogans over the porn issue.

Treasury benches then moved a motion under Rule 52 of Assembly, seeking to suspend the Congress MLAs en masse for disrupting the house proceedings, which was passed by a voice vote.

When Speaker put the motion against him for adoption, no Congress MLAs were present to support it and it was announced as dismissed.

"The legislative traditions are not being followed in the house proceedings, a new example was set today," senior Congress leader Siddharth Patel later said outside the House.

On resuming session after adjournment, BJP's Shankar Chaudhary was permitted to speak under Section 45, while the no confidence motion against Speaker was not taken up, which was a breach of tradition," Patel claimed.

As per the rules, no confidence motion should have been accorded priority, Patel claimed.

As many as 19 MLAs of the Gujarat Congress party had given a notice for no confidence motion against the Speaker on March 1, following his ruling against the Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil suspending him for the entire budget session.

Gohil had allegedly remarked that state government was working in collusion with Adani group, and subsequently refused to tender an apology in House.
