Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti admitted on Sunday that the BJP has committed a mistake by not giving tickets to Muslims in the ongoing UP Assembly elections.
Union Minister and BJP’s star campaigner in UP, Uma Bharti, told CNN-News18, that BJP should have given tickets to Muslim candidates in UP.
"Rajnath Singh ji is right when he said we could have given them (Muslims) tickets. But sometimes the winnability (sic) factor prevails both in case of Muslims and women," Uma Bharti said.
She also said that she will raise this issue with party chief Amit Shah.
UP BJP leader Vinay Katiyar has openly said why should his party give tickets to Muslims when they don't vote for BJP.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Katiyar said, "Why should his party give tickets to Muslims when they don't vote for BJP."
The BJP has not given a single Assembly ticket to Muslims in the assembly elections.
The fifth phase of polling is underway today with high profile constituencies in Ayodhya and Amethi going to election.
