New Delhi: The Vyapam scam is getting murkier by the day. One more death as been reported in connection with the deadly scam after a constable Ramakant Pandey was found hanging from the ceiling at a tourist outpost in Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh.
The constable had been questioned four months ago by the Special Task Force investigating the Vyapam scam. Local police has denied allegations of the death being linked to Vyapam scam claiming that Pandey was an alcoholic and was depressed over mounting debt.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government on Monday ruled out a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday claimed that there was no need for a probe by the central agency as both Madhya Pradesh High Court and Supreme Court were satisfied with the ongoing investigation.
"There is no point in handing over the ongoing probe to CBI at this juncture. In case someone tries to influence the probe, or if any incident takes place that affects the investigation, then I am sure that the court will take cognisance. If the Supreme Court or the High Court feels that the probe is not perfect to the extent it should be, then it will give directions and the government will immediately accept it and hand over the matter to the CBI," Singh said.
He also pointed out that the current probe was being conducted by a High Court-appointed SIT, and was being monitored by the court. Lashing out at the opposition parties for indulging in blame game over the issue, he said, "politics should be done on positive and right issues."
"Both CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and I want complete probe into the scam," he added when asked about the death of several accused or witnesses related to the scam.
The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking CBI probe into the scam on Tuesday. Over 45 people have died with alleged links to the case so far.
