“Yeh hui na baat,” said Priyanka Gandhi, cheering the crowd at the Aabhar rally in Raebareili. This is also what the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc is saying to itself. And with this mood, the bloc will now reach parliament to chalk its strategy.
But the Congress has a plan.
First, its idea is that no more should they or the bloc shy away from a fight, even if it is a losing one. “The idea is to show that we are not scared of taking you on,” said a senior leader.
The Congress is hoping that its numbers and newfound exuberance will ensure that it can win or woo other like-minded parties, which may not be a part of the bloc, so it will reach out to them in the hope to shore up its numbers.

IN PARLIAMENT
This apart, the Congress, along with other INDIA bloc members, is also expected to move a no-confidence motion or resolution against the government on either of the two grounds. One, that the PM has no mandate, and two, the rising stock rates after exit polls shows financial impropriety, hence the government must resign.
It is clear that in Parliament, the Congress and the bloc will not waste time and will keep confronting the government.

IN VARANASI, OTHER STATES
The Congress has other plans as well, as it wants to ensure that it comes on its own in states. In some states, voices are already being raised. Like the Tamil Nadu Congress chief has asked for how long, will the Congress keep depending on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). So it plans to one strengthen itself in states where it is not in power. But more importantly, the Congress will also visit the areas where the BJP has done well or is in power.
For example, in Varanasi, the Congress plans to do more road shows and begin campaigns to show that the PM has done scant work in this star constituency. A small team will be formed which will station and focus on this area. The idea is to “cripple the idea that the PM means development and is strong”.
As a senior Congress leader said, “Varanasi is a start. Picture abhi baaki hai.”
At 100, the Congress hopes it can take on the mighty BJP and the work has begun.
