Political Reax: Soren's nemeses eat words, run for cover
A cautious J'khand CM Madhu Koda welcomes verdict, JD(U) eats words.

New Delhi: Shibu Soren's acquittal in Sashinath Jha murder case has sent many in the political fraternity running for cover.

Soren, till his arrest, was a powerful force in Jharkhand politics and is known to exercise considerable influence in the state.

While Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has had a free hand in running the state since Soren's arrest, he will have to be cautious about placing Soren right in the state political scenario.

"It's a matter of great happiness that Soren ji is back. The politics in Jharkhand will get a new turn if he returns to state politics," Koda said after hearing of the Delhi HC verdict.

Soren's sons are also known to be powerful manipulators in the state. However, their influence declined with Soren’s arrest.

But with his return, political analysts say Koda will have to play his cards carefully considering Soren’s well-known desire to become Jharkhand Chief Minister.

While Koda extracted the best bargain by grabbing CM’s chair with Soren’s blessings last year, it’s clear that Soren would now want to become an interfering figure.

Apart from Koda, other political figures also reacted with caution to the court verdict.

Prabhunath Singh of the JD (U), who led a campaign against Soren after his arrest, played it safe when asked if political fraternity should apologise to Soren. “It's unfortunate that a minister like Soren has undergone so much trouble in jail. What was said at that time is a thing of the past. Whether or not Soren should get a ministerial berth is PM's call,” he said.

The BJP said CBI is to be blamed for the verdict. “Questions must be posed before the CBI. Our campaign against tainted ministers will continue,” said BJP spokesperson Venkaiah Naidu.
