Lucknow: Rebel leaders from Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), who resigned from their posts and parties on Sunday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday.

On July 29th, as BJP national president Amit Shah reached Lucknow, three MLCs had resigned from the Council by submitting their resignation to Ramesh Yadav, the Chairman of the Legislative Council.

After resigning from the post of MLC, SP’s Bukkal Nawab praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, claiming that Mulayam Singh Yadav was being insulted in the party. “For this reason I and MLC Yashwant Singh are resigning from our posts and party as well. On the other hand, BSP MLC Thakur Jaiveer Singh also resigned from the post of MLC,” said Nawab.

Reacting to the resignations, ex-CM Samajwadi Party national president, Akhilesh Yadav, accused the BJP of engineering defections. “The BJP is behind the resignation of Samajwadi Party MLCs. Bukkal Nawab is an old member of our party. I had even met him on Eid. Why has he suddenly changed?” quizzed Yadav.

“These are a lot of members who reach the House ahead of time. They do it on purpose; so they can lure some MLCs to their side,” Yadav alleged.
